ive had a cold since last monday..
OMG!!!!
but im fine♡ im really enjoying my holidays♡

i took medicine and went to dinner with my friends:)
hope they dont have a cold because of me..




だんだん本文が短くなってきて、面倒くさがりが露呈しつつありますが笑
そんなところできょうのひとこと！

"Life is just one of those things that you take as it comes. It might be good to you one day, bad the other, but you love it, cherish it."

(人生は成り行きまかせ。あなたにとって良い日もあれば、悪い日だってあるかもしれない。だけどそんな人生を大切に。)

訳もだいぶ面倒くさがってしまいましたが笑
これとっても深いね。。


さて、本文にある通り、がっつり風邪をひいてしまいました！
せっかくの連休なのに、、がーん。。。。
そうやっていつも絶妙なタイミングで体調をくずす私。

体調管理は社会人としての基本！
休みが明けるころには万全の状態にしておかなくては。


というわけで、今回は体調が悪いときに使える表現をいくつか紹介します★


”I have a cold."
風邪ひいちゃった。

"I have a fever."
熱があります。

"I feel sick."
なんだか具合が悪い。

"I get the chills."
悪寒がする。

"I feel dizzy."
くらくらめまいがする。

"I have a bad cough."
咳がひどい。

"I have a sore throat."
のどがひりひり痛い。

"Do you have any cough drops?"
（咳止め用の）のどあめ持ってない？

"I have a headache."
頭痛がする。

"I have a stomachache."
お腹が痛い。


"My nose is running."
鼻水がでる。
(直訳すると「わたしの鼻が走っています」笑　おもしろい表現ですよね！)

"My nose is stuffed up."
鼻が詰まっている。



"Take care."
おだいじにね！




などなどなどなど。。

生徒たちにはよくこの話をしているのですが、
このような体調に関する表現は絶っっっっ対に役に立つので覚えておくべき！！


なぜなら私が2度も身をもって体験しているから。笑


1度目、大学での講義中（カナダ人講師）。
突然具合が悪くなってしまい、限界を感じたわたしは、先生に英語で不調を訴え続け、早退することができたのでした。
いま思えば日本語でも通じたんだろうけど。。笑


2度目はサンフランシスコへ向かう飛行機の中。
長時間飛行機に乗るのははじめてで慣れていなかったせいか、
トイレにたった瞬間めまいがして目の前が真っ暗に！
たまたまちかくにCAさんがいて、
"you look pale!"(顔が真っ青！)ということばが聞こえ、
気づいたときには酸素ボンベを口にあてられていました。爆


アメリカの航空会社だったのでもちろんCAさんはアメリカ人、日本語通じず。
このときも上の表現を駆使し、自分の体調を正確に伝えることができたので大事にいたらずに済んだのでした。。



いざというときのために、ぜひぜひ覚えておきましょう！

「人には話す言語の数だけ人格があるんだよ」

ある人がなにげなくわたしにいったひとこと。。


いままで英語を勉強してきて
そんなこと一度も意識したことなかったから、
わたしにとってものすごく印象的で、衝撃的で、斬新で、わすれられない。

だけどいわれてみれば、
日本語だったら絶対言わないだろうなーなんてことも
英語だとすっと言えてしまったりするんですよね！


日本人はよく言えば思いやりがあって、
空気読むのが好きで、
やっぱりものごとをあまりはっきりいわないし多くを語るのをあまり良しとしないところがあると思う。


英語圏のひとたちはイエスノーははっきりしているし
感情表現もとっても豊かだと感じる。よくもわるくもね。


日本人として日本語を話すわたしはばっちり優柔不断♡笑

英語を話しているときは心なしかオーバーリアクションになったり、
ものごとをストレートに言えたりもする。（ボキャブラリーの少なさゆえ…??）


厳密にいえばどのことばにも、ひとつとして同じニュアンスのものってないと思う。

その国で生まれたことばや人々にも、その国の文化がしっかりと根付いているんだということを
このひとことでわたしは改めて感じました。
うん。。深いっ！

ことばはコミュニケーションの「ツール」にすぎないかもしれない、
だけどことばを学ぶことで
あらたな自分とも出会えるなんて、、
すてきなことだと思いませんか??☻

わたしが語学を学ぶのが好きで、長く続けられるのも
無意識にこんな想いがモチベーションになっていたからなのかも。。

ちなみにわたしは、あとすこし英語が上達したら
あらたに学んでみたい言語が2つほどあります♡

どんなわたしがどんなことばを話すのか、、私自身楽しみです♡笑



きょうの日記日本語だけで終わっちゃうのもなんだから笑、
さいごにわたしのお気に入りの名言(迷言？)たちをEnglish ver.でどーぞ。。

(息をするのと同じぐらい笑い、生きている限り愛し続けよう)

訳はなんとなくでつけてますが、
このことばたちもみんな、やっぱり日本語より英語のほうが俄然しっくりくるのよね。。
というより日本語だとなんだかこっぱずかしい。。笑
まだまだあるんだけどとりあえずこのへんでね:)

もちろん日本語でもたくさんありますよー好きなことば！
日本語でしか表せない響きとかリズムとか語彙の豊富さといい、
ほんとに美しいことばだと思う日本語って。


もー全体的になにが言いたいのかわけわからないけど笑、
とにかく気に入ったものがもしあればぜひぜひ覚えて、使ってみてくださいねー♡

we went there to go to......

and they opened their first shop in japan at omotesando hills on apr.14:)

i was really looking forward to it!!!!

though it was raining n a little bit cold
it was crowded
so we waited about 20 minutes to enter the shop..


i ate chocolate mint & ginger flavored icecream!!!!

★本日のひとこと英会話のコーナー★


今日はアメリカ発のお店をいくつかご紹介しました☻!
実はわたしは去年の夏初めてアメリカ（サンフランシスコ）へいってきました。
「アメリカのたべものは日本人の口に合わない」なんてよくきくので不安でしたが、、
わたしの味覚は相当アメリカ人よりだったみたい♡笑

思っていたほど日本食が恋しくなることもなく（ラーメン以外は）、
朝→シリアル＆アイス、昼→ハンバーガー＆ポテト＆アイス、夜→ピザ＆お肉＆アイス
とザ・アメリカン！！な食生活でした。。爆

今回の記事に登場した"BEN&JERRY'S"、"See's CANDIES"も、そのときアメリカで出会ったお店たちです。
他にもアメリカにはまだ日本にはないおいしいお店がたっくさんあったので、またの機会にご紹介しますね☻


さてさてそんなきょうは、ファストフードやレストランで使える英会話表現をいくつか紹介します(＾＾)


"I'm gonna get ○○."
「○○にします。○○をください。」
*I'm gonna=I'm going to

注文するときはさまざまな表現がありますが、現地に住んでいるわたしの友人はこれ↑をよく使っていました。


"For here, or to go?"
「こちらでお召し上がりですか、それともお持ち帰りしますか？」

日本のファストフードでもよく聞かれますよね！
"For here, please."または"To go, please."と答えましょう(＾＾)

ちなみに、、
アメリカのレストランででてくる料理はとにかく量が多い！
ほとんどの店に持ち帰り用の大きめの箱が置いてありますが
この箱を"To-go box"と呼んでいます。


"Check, please."
「お会計お願いします。」
"Can I pay by credit card?"
「クレジットカード使えますか。」
"I'll pay by cash."
「現金で支払います。」


ご存知の通り、欧米にはチップを支払う習慣があります。
（個人の自由ですが）合計金額の15-20%をチップとして支払うのが一般的だそうです。


ちなみに、、
アメリカのレストランでは、食事をしているとウェイターさんに味の感想をきかれることが多くてびっくりしたのを覚えています。
そんなとき使える表現は…またの機会に！

というわけで祝23さい！！！！＼(^o^)／
そろそろ誕生日を迎えるのがすこーしだけ憂鬱なお年頃。。(笑)

いやーほんと月日が経つのはあっという間、
まさに「光陰矢のごとし」！

このことわざ、英語では…
"Time and tide stay for no man."
（時と潮の流れは誰も待ってくれない）
*tide…潮


さて本題！
大切なひとの誕生日、英語でお祝いできたりしたらちょっとかっこよくないですか??(^^)♪
そこで誕生日に使える表現をいくつか紹介したいと思います。

~"Happy birthday!"のバリエーション~
"Congratulations on your birthday."
"Best wishes on your birthday."
"I wish you many happy returns!"(このことばには「幸せなこの日がこれから何度でも訪れるように」といった願いが込められているそうです。すてき♡)


フライングしてだれよりも早くお祝いしたい人は…
"Happy early birthday."
（一足早いけど誕生日おめでとう。）


ついうっかりして遅れてしまった場合は…
"Happy belated birthday!"
belated(遅ればせながら)が入ることで、
「遅れちゃったけど誕生日おめでとう！」となります。

"Belated Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!"
(遅ればせながらメリークリスマス&ハッピーニューイヤー！)
などなど応用できます☆


ちなみにアメリカやイギリスのteenagerは
birthdayをB-day,B'day(ビー・デイ)ということが多いそうです。

i went to Sansen park in ebina with my friends:)
because it was a lovely day for hanami today, there were so many ppl there.

we've been there two years ago, but at that time it was too cold to watch cherry blossoms.

we really enjoyed watching beautiful cherry blossoms n eating what we made our own;9
but we ate too much..

only one thing that i regret is i couldn't drink beer because i was a driver:(
so im writing this blog drinking beer LOL




★本日のひとこと英会話のコーナー★

というわけで、今日は「お花見」に関する表現をいくつか紹介します(^^)

そもそも「花見」は、英語で"cherry blossom viewing (party)"といいます。
cherry blossomが「桜」、viewingが「見ること、鑑賞」といった意味を表します。そのままー！笑

ところで食いしん坊なわたしはやっぱり「花よりだんご」。。
このことわざを英語では

"Better fill a man's belly than his eye."
（目を楽しませるより腹を満たすほうが重要）
*belly…腹、胃、食欲

"Bread is better than the songs of birds."
（鳥の美しい歌声を聞いているよりもパンを食べて空腹を満たすほうがよい）

などといいます。


東京ではようやく見頃を迎えた桜、アメリカの首都ワシントンD.C.ではひとあしお先に日本との友好の証、ソメイヨシノがきれいな花を咲かせていたそうですね(^^)

四季をはっきりと感じられる日本のすばらしさを改めて感じた1日でした♪


さて、いよいよ明日から今年度のレッスンがスタートします！どきどき～
生徒ちゃんたちの元気いっぱいの笑顔を見るのがいまから楽しみだっ♡

Types of Environmental Problems

Recently, environmental problems have been more and more serious all over the world. Though many scientists have been studying hard to solve them, they haven’t become better. To solve these serious problems, people should know about them. There are many types of environmental problems and most of them are caused by people’s lives. Environmental problems can be classified on the basis of the place they happen.
First, some of them happen in the air. They are called air pollution. One of the best-known things is the depletion of the ozone layer. It is mainly caused by the CFC gas, also called freon, released from refrigerators, air conditioners, and so on. It destroys the ozone layer and makes an ozone hole. If the ozone hole becomes bigger, people would be bathed in more ultraviolet rays, which cause diseases like skin cancer.
They also happen in the water. One of them is acid rain, defined as “rain or any other form of precipitation that is unusually acidic” (Quoted from Wikipedia). It is caused by combustion of fuel or volcanic activities. It acidifies lakes, makes forests die and liquefies metal. Water pollution and the rise in ocean level are also this type of environmental problem.
Finally, they happen on the land. A typical example is deforestation. It is caused by felling and burning trees. People do such things to sell wood, build new leisure spots, and so on. It not only robs animals of their dwellings, but also increases CO2, which causes global warming. The other problems in this type are garbage pollution, desertification, and so on.
There are still many kinds of environmental problems. All these types of problems listed above are only a part of them. Moreover, all the problems relate to each other. Some of them cause others. Albert Arnold Gore, Jr., an American environmental activist and the forty-fifth Vice President of the United States, said people are responsible for environmental problems now, in his book, “An Inconvenient Truth”. As he said, each person should have responsibility and try hard to solve these problems as soon as possible. There are a lot of things he or she can do for the environment.

2) RESPONDING TO THE PLOT:
If I were Scrooge, I couldn’t change my mind because I think it is so difficult for everyone to change his or her mind especially being older. So if I were the author, I would change the story that Scrooge’s mind and life didn’t change at all after meeting three ghosts.
In the last page, the book says “it was always said of him that he knew how to keep Christmas well, if any man alive possessed the knowledge.” It was the most impressive for me because it shows Scrooge’s characteristic after changing the best. So I chose it.
3) ANALYZING 7 LITERARY TERMS
1. Setting: The location of the story is London, England. And the time is the middle of the nineteenth century.
2. Point of View: This story is told through the minds and emotions of all the characters. Therefore, the point of view is omniscient.
3. Conflict: There are many conflicts in this story. For example, Scrooge versus his employees, and Scrooge versus his family. The main conflict, however, is Scrooge versus three ghosts because they tried to change his life.
4. Climax: Scrooge was avaricious and hated by the people around him, but finally, he changed his mind and became very kind to everyone. I think it is the climax in this story.
5. Symbol: The symbol in this story is a Christmas carol. It stands for Scrooge’s awaking of human love through his experience with three ghosts.
6. Irony: One of the ironies in this story is that Scrooge had much money, but didn’t have much love. Another irony is that Scrooge changed his mind because of the ghost of Marley, who was a materialistic person like Scrooge.
7. Theme: This story tells us how necessary human love is. After reading this story, I thought that the most important thing for human was not money, but love.
4) REFLECTING ON THE STORY
I was surprised that ghosts changed a person’s life. I think it is impossible in the real life. So I also felt interesting. Scrooge was rich, but always alone. I’m not rich, but never feel alone. At that time, there was strong class consciousness. However, we hardly mind it in my country. The book has already been made into a film many times, but I’ve never seen it yet. I want to see it.
The author was very poor so he had to work at a factory when he was a child. So he wrote a lot of stories as a poor man and tried to change society through Christian human love. I think his life and experience themselves might have inspired him to write the book. I agree with the author’s view of people and life. I also think that love is much more important than money. What I learned from this story is that we can change our life if we can change our mind. I thought we could never change our mind so easily, but after reading this book, I thought we could change it if we really hope to do. I expected Scrooge never changed until he died, but actually, he changed a lot and lived the rest of his life happily.
